the sum fixed should be very largely increased. This

request the Executive Council declined to entertain,

but undertook to reimburse him for any out of pocket

expenses which could be shew not to have been contem-

plated at the time the agreement was made, I cannot

therefore assent to his view that he should simultaneously

regard this matter as a piece of lucrative business and

as a "service to the Colony",

I sympathise with his disappointment

in not having been able to complete his full time for pension, and if you should consider that he has any claim

on the Colonial taxpayer in this respect, I should be blad to lay the question before the Council and to ascertain their views as to whether any part of this

66 should be made good to him.
